"Posters Fade champions Derby's signature sound of sweeping soft melodies and upbeat hooks, draped over bouncy keys, punchy guitars and a healthy dose of 50's-era drum beats. Good luck keeping this record off of your year-end lists. This one is a K.O." -Nada Mucho

"Orchestrated indie pop with brilliant melodies and a quiet sense of everything." -Hybrid Magazine

"Posters Fade is definitely a potential pop/indie rock album of the year candidate, and proves that Derby is more than just a one hit wonder. While we've heard some of these sounds from other bands in the past, this trio from Portland has found a way to make them feel unique again. I have no idea how these guys aren't on a major label yet, but hopefully this impressive sophomore effort will be what it takes for them to get noticed." -Cosmos Gaming

"Posters Fade is an embarrassment of riches, with almost too many intriguing textures and fascinating details to absorb in one sitting." -Portland Monthly Magazine

"Infectious, melodic bundle of sugary pop goodness" -Northwest Music Blog

" The group staples wistful tenor lines and chunky guitar to melodies that aren't ashamed to be, you know, melodic." -Download.com

"Believe it or not, you can actually legitimately rock out to this album with a kazoo! The melodies instantly get stuck in your head with no intention of ever leaving...and that's a good thing! This album very well could be the perfect soundtrack to road trip with friends." -Mishmash Mag

"...a deliberate, easygoing LP that's like 1965 Ray Davies emigrating to L.A. to write for The Byrds, only the modern production and subtle guitar surges are like last three LPs Teenage Fanclub. Leader Nat Johnson has a pleasant voice that blends with keyboardist Dave Gulick's like cake and icing, and every note seems considered yet not persnickety or reserved. And on faster ones like "Get of the Feeling" and "This Conversation" they have the makings of a classic Posies/Sloan/Velvet Crush power-pop band. Excellent."

- The Big Takeover

I didn't understand the fuss over Derby's 2005 album, This is the New You. There were solid pieces, to be sure, but something about it sounded too slick, too serious. Tracks off the band's upcoming album, Posters Fade, however, are sounding really, really good. The band plays percussion-heavy, Beach Boys-influenced pop that would feel at home between Spoon and the Rentals in your heavy rotation stack. The new tracks find frontman Nat Johnson gaining lyrical maturity and the band outgrowing the long shadows of its influences. So I stand corrected. I'm really excited about this band, and you should be, too. CASEY JARMAN.

- WillametteWeek

"Derby is the epitome of hipster indie rock, packing songs with a lot of whoa-ohs, clap-along beats and spot-on harmonies. The trio even wears ties. These elements usually make me want to puke, but Derby hits the nail on the head, shelling out tingly feel-good music that's nearly impossible not to nod along to. The songs are poppy and undeniably catchy, and the band spreads good vibes like a happy epidemic. Damn you, Derby. I want to hate you, but I can't turn you off."

- Willamette Week

"Derby's self-produced debut album is a hands-down success -- an immaculately clean pop album overflowing with pristine hooks, melodies and harmonies."

- Splendid Magazine

"...crisp, harmony-driven pop that lives in that rare, happy land between beauty and balls."

- Willammette Week

"Live, Derby are utterly transfixing. The sunny effects of New You are completely stripped away, presenting instead four dudes playing fuzzed-out songs free of pretensions. They create a wall of rock that's damn near hypnotic—not to mention Johnson is, like, 10 feet tall and looks like he stepped out of an American Apparel ad. The raw energy they throw down live has been rumored to have engaged one Portland audience so much that the bar was left empty during their entire set."

- The Stranger (Seattle)

"...remind you of the best of Sloan, the Posies, and Travis, distilled, sun-ripened, and squeezed into the musical equivalent of limeade on the hammock."

- Seattle Weekly

"There's nothing quite like Derby out there. Every time you think you got them figured out, they turn around and suprise you."

- Music Liberation Project v4 i2

"Word 'round the campfire says Derby transfixes audiences to the point that they can't remember to order another drink. I don't know if that's bad news for us or the club owners, but regardless, the buzz is building fast around this Portland trio. Derby specialize in hazy, layered pop like Sloan on a daydream bender, and their debut, This Is the New You, is as solid as debuts get. It's an impressive stack of crunchy chords and clapping hands with harmony vocals so note-perfect it's easy to mistake them for keyboard licks. Plans are in motion for New You to get a proper release on a proper label in July, so I'd latch onto them at this show before they become everyone else's pet band. Be forewarned: They sound much bigger than a three-piece."

- The Stranger (Seattle)

"Absolutely stunning debut from this 3-piece ('tho they sound much, much bigger) outta Portland, Oregon that's got it all - lots of guitars, gorgeous harmonies, and first-class songs that already have the music press falling over themselves!"

- Kool Kat Music

"It's the type of music that is so good that you get a nervous feeling when you listen, like if you don't hang on- you'll lose them to the world."

- NorthwestBands.com

"If you are looking for an album of shining pop that makes you feel good about the things you have - that radiates fortune and gratefulness without a trace of irony - you should look into This is the New You; maybe your troubles aren't so bad after all."

- LostAtSea.net

"This one just jumped right to the top of the heap for being a contender for "Best Of 2005" list. Bouncy sing-a-long choruses, willowy melodies, caressing, swooning vocals, it's just, simply, stunning."

- Not Lame Recordings

"Derby is one of those rare groups with a sound that's instantly familiar and yet 100 percent original. Hummable melodies and thick, cascading harmonies conjure up remnants of a long-gone era, while clever lyrics and polished songwriting place Derby among today's great young bands." "Live, Derby nails it. And that's what it's all about-a band who comes out of the studio full of energy and throws down on any stage, electric, acoustic or whatever."

- Willamette Week, Best New Bands 2005

"Derby is a guitar-pop band of the most melodic sensibilities." "...they are undeniably beautiful and slink with a Kinksy groove..." "Riding a mellow road somewhere between Bowie and Big Star, Derby has created an album with a warm heart—and a high place in Portland's struggling pop scene."

- Willamette Week (Feb 2,'05)

"...ear candy for the disenfranchised, and these Oregon natives play it with enough zeal to pull the rug out from under you while handing you a glass of champagne, and if you don't know what I am talking about you need to run out and buy this album."
